The 150th Anniversary, or Sesquicentennial, of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference was celebrated in Prince Edward Island in 2014. As the commemoration of the first meeting of the Fathers of Confederation, 2014 included province-wide celebrations where PEI’s best was presented like never before, with a wide selection of special musical events and arts and cultural activities.
The PEI 2014 Celebration Zone was a cornerstone of the Sesquicentennial celebration. Held in Charlottetown’s Confederation Landing Park, it brought together arts, history, education, and technology in an accessible and user-friendly experience. This 70-day free event featured daily concerts, a pub and culinary area, children’s exhibits, arts & heritage exhibits, theatre, dance, and other family-friendly activities. Artists from across the country performed throughout the summer making this a truly Canadian celebration.
